Used both approvingly and as a backhanded critique. Saying someone lacks it is a polite way of calling them oblivious or socially tone-deaf.

  • Someone adjusts how they talk based on who is in the room.
  • Praising someone for not making a situation worse.

  • You mean someone is anxious or hyper-vigilant.
