Worn as a badge of honor in DeFi circles. The self-awareness is part of the identity. Calling someone a defi degen is rarely an insult within the community.

Use it when
- Someone is constantly chasing the newest DeFi protocol for high yields.

Do not use it when
- Someone uses DeFi for basic swaps or holds stablecoins in a lending protocol.Use “DeFi user” instead.
- You mean someone who is just generally reckless with money outside of crypto.
Origin and context
Grew out of the 2020 DeFi Summer when yield farming exploded on Ethereum. 'Degen' (short for degenerate gambler) was already used in crypto, but 'defi degen' became a specific identity tied to high-risk yield chasing.
