verified fan

/ˈverɪfaɪd fæn/

Common

A Ticketmaster program that attempts to give real fans priority access to tickets over bots and scalpers.

Often used sarcastically because the verification process doesn't guarantee tickets and sometimes feels arbitrary. Heavy fans get rejected while casual ones get codes.

VS

presale-code

A presale code is the actual access key. Verified fan is one way to get one.

Origin and context

Ticketmaster launched Verified Fan in 2017 to combat bot scalping by pre-registering buyers and issuing codes to selected fans. Gained widespread attention after the Taylor Swift Eras Tour sales collapse in late 2022.
