twice exceptional
/twaɪs ɪkˈsɛpʃənəl/
UncommonA person who is both gifted and has a learning disability, mental health condition, or neurodevelopmental difference.
Originally clinical and educational. Has been widely adopted in neurodivergent communities as a self-identification term. The tension at the core is real: high capability in some areas, genuine struggle in others, and a school system that could not hold both at once.
