straight edge
/streɪt ɛdʒ/
CommonA lifestyle within punk culture defined by abstaining from alcohol, drugs, and often tobacco and casual sex.
There is a real difference between the capital-S Straight Edge subculture and the casual use. Hardcore adherents have strong feelings about the distinction. Using it loosely to mean 'sober at parties' is common but technically imprecise.
