Widely criticized for killing teamwork since employees compete against each other instead of collaborating. Most associated with Microsoft and GE under Jack Welch. Microsoft ended it in 2013 after widespread damage to culture.

Origin and context
Popularized by Jack Welch at GE in the 1980s, where it was called vitality curve. Widely adopted in tech, most notoriously at Microsoft. Microsoft scrapped the system in 2013 after internal criticism about its effect on collaboration.
