Sesame Street reference
/ˈsɛzəmi striːt ˈrɛfrəns/
CommonA callback to Sesame Street characters, segments, or lessons, used to make a point simply or to invoke a childlike clarity about something.
Can be sincere nostalgia or ironic commentary. Sesame Street is so universal it works across generations. Calling something 'a Sesame Street reference' can also mean the example being used is so basic it is almost insulting.
