Origin and context

Rave culture emerged from the UK and US underground dance music scenes of the late 1980s, crystallising around acid house, techno, and warehouse parties. The UK Criminal Justice Act 1994 targeted raves specifically, which paradoxically deepened the subculture's identity. It has continued evolving through subsequent generations of electronic music.
