hero-shooter

/ˈhɪroʊ ˈʃuːtər/

Common

A team-based shooter genre where each player picks a unique character with distinct abilities instead of a generic soldier.

The genre has a reputation for being saturated. Players often use it critically, noting that every new hero-shooter chases Overwatch without capturing what made Overwatch work.
