emo phase
Very CommonA period, usually in adolescence, of being deeply into emo music and the associated aesthetic.
Whether someone says it with cringe or pride depends a lot on the speaker. The MCR crowd tends toward pride. The 'phase' framing implies it ended, which not everyone agrees with.

Emo phase vs scene phase
emo phase
Emo phase centers on emotional, dark music and a more melancholy identity: MCR, black clothes, serious aesthetic.
scene-phase
Scene phase is brighter, more chaotic, and more performance-forward: neon colors, Myspace angles, overstylized hair.
Origin and context
Emo as a subculture peaked online around 2005 to 2010 on MySpace. The 'phase' framing became common as that generation aged and looked back on the period. Nostalgia revival accelerated when My Chemical Romance reunited in 2019.
