calibration match
/ˌkæl.ɪˈbreɪ.ʃən mætʃ/
CommonA game played to establish your initial skill rating on a new account before the matchmaking system has enough data.
Distinct from placement games, which are seasonal resets on existing accounts. Calibration is about first-time account setup. Often exploited by smurf accounts trying to deliberately land in a lower rank.
