body horror

/ˈbɒdi ˈhɒrər/

Common

Horror centered on the violation, mutation, or loss of control of the human body.

Often appreciated as a distinct art form rather than dismissed as gross-out content. Cronenberg's work elevated it critically. Can overlap with gore but they are not the same thing.
